In some ways 2016 was the year of Makoto Shinkai. This was especially true in Japan, where his latest film Your Name. Is now the second highest grossing movie of all time. As his movie breaks records and as his star grows, the works of Shinkai are now being reviewed and analyzed with greater scrutiny to uncover the source of his talents. So begins the legendary novel that kicked off the MONOGATARI series, whose anime adaptations have enjoyed international popularity and critical acclaim. In Devils’ Line, volume 4 Tsukasa is caught in the crossfire between her Devil-allied friends and a new terrorist organization developed to exterminate Devils and those who harbor them.
Konami is well regarded within the pet-manga community for her keen sense of cat ecology. Her ability to observe and render feline behavior has earned her respect from the Japanese manga community as a whole. Chi's Sweet Home will be Konami's first translated work. This was another volume from this charming series focusing on ordinary experiences of a family with a kitten from the kitten's perspective. This volume sees Chi and her family moving to a pet-friendly apartment, so they no longer have to keep her secret. I keep thinking there aren't any new moments of ordinary greatness this series can uncover, but it keeps surprising me by doing just that.

While Chi is big, our best selling authors are actually Aranzi Aronzo. The DIY duo from Osaka broke through globally not long after we introduced the Western world to The Cute Book and Cute Stuff. These collections of creepy-cute so-simple-it’s-fun doll and accessory making books have become a cult hit over the years. Now, five years removed from their last hit The Cuter Book and a number of storefronts later, Aranzi returns to English world with another 40 or so patterns in their Cuter Stuff collection. Crafters of all experience levels will rejoice when they see all the new ideas Aranzi have come up with lately. Fresh off our immensely successful KIZUMONOGATARI release comes our next light novel series, Seraph of the End by Takaya Kagami.
Also, what owner lets their cat just roam around outside by itself??? Maybe it's because of where I am, but I have lost count of the amount of dead cats I've seen killed by cars. I live in the country, but even in the cities and towns, cats have very low mortality rates when they live outdoors. The fact that Chi came back sick not once but twice and the owners still let her outside because she was moping around felt truly unrealistic and irresponsible. Her own mom even almost got killed because Chi was too dumb to look for a car. Cats, animals, don't understand it, and some people go out of their way to kill cats.

First comes a rare trip to the South, as we make our seventh trip to Anime Weekend Atlanta. As usual, expect unique panels and a few licenses from Vertical including big news from a beloved Vertical author. A tale of loneliness and discovery, She & Her Cat in some ways lays down the foundation for the World of Shinkai. Yamaguchi does a wonderful job not only retelling Shinkai’s story, she also adds more visual depth and context to this tale of a single woman and her cat. With Tsukasa missing Anzai and Lee must devise a plan to free her safely. The suspects are armed and no one knows how many of them are involved.

It was a really sad way to end the series, but I loved this series so so so much. Thankfully I still have the other smaller series to read as well as the rest of Konami's books. As a cat lover the whole story really tugged on my heartstrings. And even though this story is made to be simple and easier for young children to understand, it still had depth and had some really emotional moments. It was simple in theory, but it had heavy themes about family, friendship, and identity. All in all a really great end to one of the best series I've read in a long time.
Story
The anime series is directed by Mitsuyuki Masuhara and produced by Madhouse, the first episode aired on 31 March 2008. The episodes are 3 minutes long and equivalent to one chapter from the manga. While being housebroken, the kitten mistakenly answers to "Chi" (as in shi- from shikko, the Japanese word for "urine") and this becomes her name.
So too, is the young heir to a major yakuza family, and it is hardly uncommon to see those two tropes merge in a single story. That is the case here, but if you are expecting a straightforward romantic... The franchise's original creator Masashi Kishimoto will draw an original short manga following the character who wins the poll. Overall, I'm sad Chi's story has come to an end.
Though through a small kitten, it still tells a lot. I liked the animation and cat thoughts/feelings/expressions for everything. I did find it a bit weird that the cats could understand so much of the human language and Chi was so horribly dense on everything. I rate it four stars across the board and, sadly, will not be purchasing this to add to my personal library.
Chi also gets her(?) claws clipped, makes friends with a dog, and misses her old pal, Blackie. Koji Suzuki’s Ring Trilogy returns just in time for the Hollywood premiere of RINGS. To honor this occasion Vertical has worked with Mr Suzuki and Paramount on a movie-tie in rerelease of the original Ring featuring artwork from the new film. The new paperback should be hitting stores now and it should be a great introduction to this thrilling franchise.
It takes him a while to figure it out but when he does he's torn between his human family and the cat family. As usual, the cats were all adorable and really great ending... Back in 2009, Vertical began an initiative to expand its manga catalog. Prior to then we had only worked with three mangaka, releasing around a pair of titles a year since 2004. Now we have more than 50 manga titles under our belt. The first title from that new wave, though, was Konami Kanata’s Chi’s Sweet Home.
The magazine is a part of Kodansha Publishing, in which she published her works ever since her first debut. In this book, the family move to a new apartment at a pet friendly apartment building. I can't get enough of this cat and its family!

The only new thing I can say about this that I haven't already said is that it's interesting to see how consistent this series has been so far. This still makes me laugh, is still cuter than anything else in print, and, well, yeah. There is plenty to be thankful this month, and we would be very grateful if you choose to have Vertical be a part of your fall this year. Inio Asano is known as one of the more dynamic manga artists in Japan today. With a new year comes a new slate of titles launching. And in this year we are pushing the envelope just as only we could.
The Complete Chi’s Sweet Home
It was serialized in Kodansha's seinen manga magazine Weekly Morning from 2004 to 2015, with its chapters collected in twelve tankōbon volumes. The manga has been licensed for North American distribution by Vertical Inc. An anime adaptation lasting two seasons aired from March 2008 to September 2009. A 3DCG anime television adaptation lasting two seasons aired from October 2016 to September 2018.
Seriously though, if you've been reading the series up to this point there's nothing new to say. Everything is still adorable, there absolutely is a chara arc & development running under the cuteness. One somehow gets really anxious at how easily the cats get outside the home & go to the park.... My eyes were welling up so bad near the end of this ... After six years in North America the Chi's Sweet Home saga has finally come to an end! Chi, Blackie, Cocchi and the rest will wrap up their adventures near Green Park in this final collection.
